If you are an American you are probably pretty familiar with Domino's Pizza chain. Even those around the world will recognize the name. The company has been in business for decades, and has become quite well-known this past couple of years for making major improvements to their pizza recipe and menu to compete solidly with other national pizza restaurants. Normally, you woudn't see the Domino's name as part of a controversy, but Tom Monaghan, the man who started the company is changing all of that.
Monaghan, who is the former owner of the Domino's chain, as well as a former owner of the Detroit Tigers, has filed a lawsuit with Domino's Farms as one of the plaintiff's - the name of an office park that Monaghan owns. His lawsuit is over the required contraception coverage in the Affordable Care Act, also know as Obamacare. Monaghan is a devout Roman Catholic, and he claims that contraception is a "gravely immoral" practice and he should not be required to cover it. His current health insurance for his employees excludes coverage for contraception and abortion.
This is just another example of a Christian business owner trying to push his moral beliefs on his employees. If he doesn't want to provide insurance coverage for contraception and abortion, then perhaps the Domino's Pizza founder would be okay with paying each employee who wanted to have protected sex or an abortion, but had a child instead, $300,000 per child. That's about what it costs to raise a child in 2012, not including the hefty price tag of a college education.
It is important to note that it is Tom Monaghan himself, who no longer has an active role at Domino's Pizza, that is suing the government over Obamacare. The Domino's company themselves are not part of the lawsuit, nor have they made any statements regarding Obamacare.
