Customers who visit the Golden Arches now will be able to make better choices based upon the calorie counts of the food items. The McDonald's menu will now list the number of calories right next to the item in both the drive-in and walk-in menus.
While you might think that the Big Mac and the Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese are the most calorie-heavy items on the menu, you would be wrong. The biggest ticket item that the restaurant offers is the Big Breakfast with hotcakes and a biscuit, weighing in at a whopping 1,150 calories, with the Double Quarter Pounder only 750 calories and the Big Mac just 550.
Those who have tried to eat the salads offered by McDonald's might have a surprise in store for them as well. The Double Cheeseburger actually has around 10 calories less than a Southwest Salad with Crispy Chicken. Smoothies aren't that great, either, averaging around 350 calories.
This new McDonald's menu is precisely the sort of in-your-face information that the country needs. People that see that a Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese Meal has around 1,500 calories, and choose to eat it anyway, have only themselves to blame.

I think it's a good thing, because those "healthy" salads give people a false idea they are eating "right" and although it can be less carbs... it can be loaded with fat.
I think it's good that people make informed decisions.
When I ate fast food, more often than I do now, I gave up the fries... because I knew the cheeseburger had enough calories.
Now it doesn't even taste good to me. I'd rather buy a $4 lunch at chinese take out than spend it on a fast food meal... and those meals are often enough for two servings.
