Many people may remember last week's drama over Nintendo's Mario. If you were under a rock the entire time, basically, PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, attacked the family favorite video game. They claim that the raccoon suit is actually the result of the plumber killing these Japanese raccoon-dogs in the game and then wearing their skin. Apparently Nintendo's 1990s style is now a 2011 politically incorrect, "fur" pas. In addition to the poaching allegations many in the company believe that the game "is sending out the message that it is OK to wear fur."
Honestly, PETA? Is there nothing better for you to do? There are so many people all around the world that would love to spend their time playing Mario without all the trauma that ensues from people who apparently never had a childhood. Not to bash PETA in everything they do, but especially in this instance...who legitmately believes in this mess?
To make matters worse, the animal (over-) lovers created a spoof nicknamed "Super Tanooki Skin 2D" that depicts a naked animal chasing after a flying blood-soaked Tanooki (raccoon-dog) wearing plumber. In fact, the cover (shown below) looks much more anti-animal than anything Nintendo would create. Mario fans fight back with their own video game hack. It's a short video following a plumber that says he cares for animals; however, he is killing them constantly. It truly shows how ridiculous the claims were.
