American Apparel had one of the worse days in its history. One of its employees, Tuan Phan, 49, was killed in their Garden Grove, CA factory. The incident occurred during Friday afternoon. Obviously, everyone present was in shock over what happened.
The Orange County coroner stated that the man had been "crushed by a circular knitting machine." Authorities were called to the factory at 2:39 p.m. with reports that a man was "stuck in a machine." Phan was extracted from the circular knitting machine and rushed to the West Anaheim Medical Center where he died at 3:12 p.m.
Sadly, American Apparel has not made a public announcement about the incident to Phan's family or to the media. Hopefully, the company will issue a thorough investigation into whatever happened with their machine so that it won't occur again. Something this horrific lingers when a company doesn't address it immediately. There's no doubt the employees who were present when the incident occurred have been mentally scarred.
