EBay is suing Google over mobile payment system. The auction giant alleges that the search giant stole its trade secrets and acted inappropriately.
In the lawsuit filed Thursday in the Superior Court of the State of California, county of Santa Clara, Case No: CV20l863, eBay and its payment partner PayPal accuse former PayPal employees Osama Bedier and Stephanie Tilenius, who are now with Google, of divulging trade secrets that were proprietary knowledge.
The eBay suit said that Bedier "misappropriated PayPal trade secrets by disclosing them within Google and to major retailers." Meanwhile, Tilenius is accused of recruiting Bedier, which was a breach of contractual agreement. Why would they do something like this when they knew what their contracts were? It seems too obvious, which makes you wonder if they really did steal secrets.
The mobile payments market is expected to be huge ($1 trillion huge), so eBay has a lot to lose, which is why it is suing Google. Why would Google do something like this, though? It seems like a lot to lose by stealing these ideas when they have plenty of opportunity to develop their own ideas.
