YouTube movie rentals will soon become a big competition for Apple's iTunes. YouTube is expanding its current rental selection to include movies from some of Hollywood's biggest studios. Are you wondering if Apple is concerned? Well, they should be.
Apparently, some of the movie rentals for YouTube will come from studios such as Universal, Lionsgate and even Warner Brothers. Also, the movies will be much more modern than their current choices. It is currently offering movie rentals for $0.99 to $2.99.
YouTube emailed the following statement: "We've steadily been adding more and more titles since launching movies for rent on YouTube over a year ago and now have thousands of titles available..."
The website credited with making stars out of Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black will soon be streaming more mainstream stars into your living room. Perhaps it's time for all movie rental companies to be afraid and that includes Blockbuster and Netflix. Sure, YouTube's current selection of old movies from years ago may make some movie rental companies scoff but today's greenhorn can easily become tomorrow's captain.
